The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says it's looking at several new drugs for erectile dysfunction.
The drug Viagra, approved by the FDA in 1998, is the first drug to treat erectile dysfunction.
Viagra, or sildenafil, was the first drug approved by the FDA to treat erectile dysfunction.
It was also the first drug to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, or high blood pressure.
The drug is the first to block the action of an enzyme known as phosphodiesterase-5.
Because of the way the drug works, the FDA says it has no plans for other drugs.
In fact, the drug is the only medicine approved for use in treating pulmonary arterial hypertension.
"The FDA is still working to determine whether the drug works for the patient and if the patient is not at risk," said Dr. Alan Baum, a urologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
There are currently no other drugs to treat erectile dysfunction.
The drug's maker, Pfizer, is in talks to sell Viagra as a treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension.
The FDA has not reached an agreement with Pfizer, and it's unclear whether they will release Viagra until it has the opportunity to make a decision on whether to approve it.
The drug was first approved to treat erectile dysfunction when researchers in 2003 found that patients who took the drug experienced erections lasting longer than people who didn't take it.
In 2004, Pfizer issued a "black box" warning about the drug's safety for people with heart disease. The drug's label said the risk of stroke and heart attack increased in people taking nitrates for heart disease.
The FDA has also warned that the drug may cause a "dangerous side effect" for some patients, including people with pre-existing heart conditions and those taking high blood pressure medications.
The drug's manufacturer, Bayer AG, said in a statement, "The FDA is continuing to evaluate all available information to ensure the safety and efficacy of this medicine for use in treating male erectile dysfunction."
Viagra and similar drugs are not FDA approved for use in treating erectile dysfunction. But the FDA said it's considering more clinical trials to try to figure out which drugs are safe for patients.
The FDA said that it does not believe the drugs will be approved for use in patients with heart problems.
A study has shown that Viagra, a drug that has been on the market since 1998, can cause an erection if taken with nitrates. That's why it's been approved for the treatment of angina, or chest pain, in older people.
Viagra may be used to treat erectile dysfunction in people who are already taking nitrates or other drugs to treat high blood pressure.
A study published in the Journal of Urology found that patients who took Viagra for a year had less blood flow to the penis than those who took nitrate-containing drugs.
Viagra was first tested in patients with erectile dysfunction in 2004 when the drug's manufacturer, Pfizer, announced the drug's potential risks and benefits.
Viagra was also the first drug approved by the FDA to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension.
The drug is not yet available in the U. S.
The FDA has no plans for other drugs to treat erectile dysfunction.
